Under the Right to Education Act, children from weaker and disadvantaged groups can get free education in private schools under the 25% reserved quota. The Bihar Government manages the process online to ensure transparency and equal opportunity.
Eligibility Criteria for RTE Bihar 2026-27
A. Disadvantaged Group (рдЕрд▓рд╛рднрдХрд╛рд░реА рд╕рдореВрд╣)
- SC, ST, OBC, Most Backward Class
- Transgender children
- Minority community children
- Annual family income must be тЙд тВ╣1,00,000
B. Weaker Section (рдХрдордЬреЛрд░ рд╡рд░реНрдЧ)
- Any caste or community
- Annual family income must be тЙд тВ╣2,00,000
C. Orphan Children (рдЕрдирд╛рде рдмрдЪреНрдЪреЗ)
Children without parents are automatically eligible.
D. Age Limit
- Child should be 6+ years old on 1 April 2026.
- Birth date between 02 April 2018 тАУ 01 April 2020 for entry-level classes.
Required Documents
According to Page 2 of the PDF, the following documents are required:
- Birth Certificate or Hospital/Anganwadi Record
- Caste Certificate (if applicable)
- Income Certificate (not required for orphans)
- Domicile Certificate / Aadhaar / Voter ID / Driving License / Electricity Bill
- Undertaking for pending documents
- Passport size photo (50 KB)
- Parent/guardian mobile number
- Special category proofs (CWSN etc.)
RTE Bihar Online Application Process
- Parents must register on the Gyanadeep Portal.
- Aadhaar verification is mandatory.
- After registration, a User ID will be sent via SMS.
- Parents must log in and fill the admission form with required documents.
School Selection Procedure
- Applicants can choose from all schools listed in their block.
- Parents must select five nearby schools.
- Priority 1: Children living within 1 km
- Priority 2: Children living 1тАУ3 km away
- Priority 3: Children beyond 3 km (if seats remain)
Verification by Block Education Office
- Officials verify all uploaded documents.
- Any incorrect or mismatched document can lead to rejection.
- After successful verification, the application qualifies for lottery (randomization).
Online Seat Allotment (Randomization)
- Lottery-based transparent seat allotment.
- 5% seats reserved for CWSN students.
- Children closer to the school get preference.
- Allotment list is shared with district office and schools.
Admission in Schools
- Selected students must complete admission within the given deadline.
- Schools cannot deny admission once allotted.
- No discrimination is allowed under RTE norms.
- Schools must update details if any allotted seat becomes vacant.
District Education Office Responsibilities
- Update school intake capacity on the portal.
- Promote awareness among parents.
- Verify applications and supervise randomization.
- Ensure timely communication between schools and applicants.
School Responsibilities
- Upload intake capacity and correct errors if any.
- Admit allotted students promptly.
- Maintain transparency during verification.
