Guide to Normalization for TN Paramedical Courses Admission 2024-25

The minimum eligibility criteria for candidates who have completed an equivalent examination will be determined using the normalization method, as outlined in Tamil Nadu Act No. 3 of 2007, dated 05.03.2007, and G.O.(Ms) No.77 of the Higher Education (J2) Department, dated 05.04.2007. This process involves standardizing the marks obtained by students in relevant subjects during qualifying examinations conducted by different Boards or Authorities against the marks obtained by students in the same subjects during qualifying examinations conducted by the State Board of Tamil Nadu.

Normalization is achieved by aligning the highest mark obtained by students from various Boards in each subject with the highest mark achieved by State Board students in that subject. Subsequently, the relative marks obtained by other students in that subject are determined accordingly.

Normalization Guide

The normalization process involves aligning scores achieved by students from different educational boards to ensure fairness and comparability. For instance, if a student from the State Board scores 100 in Physics, and a student from another board scores 90 in the same subject, both scores will be adjusted to reflect a standardized maximum score of 100. This adjustment aims to create a level playing field for all students regardless of their educational background.

To illustrate, if a student from a different board scores 60 in Physics where the board’s highest mark is 90, the 60 marks will be normalized to 66.66 using the formula: (100 x 60) / 90 = 66.66%. By normalizing marks across various boards in specific subjects, eligible students from different educational boards can be integrated into a single merit list.

For candidates who have cleared examinations from national boards such as CBSE and ICSE, only the highest marks obtained at the national level will be considered for the normalization process. This ensures that all students are evaluated based on a standardized criterion, promoting fairness and equity in the assessment process.
