Candidates seeking the role of Assistant Surgeon (General) must hold a qualification from a University or Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission and endorsed by the Medical Council of India that is equivalent to an MBBS Degree. To qualify for this position, individuals must meet the following criteria:
- Being a registered practitioner in accordance with the Madras Medical Registration Act of 1914.
- Having completed a minimum of twelve months as a House Surgeon (CRRI).
- Ensuring their name is listed in the Tamil Nadu Medical Council prior to the stipulated deadline mentioned in this Notification (15.05.2024).
In cases where a candidate claims that their academic credentials are equivalent, though not identical, to the stated qualifications, the responsibility of substantiating this claim rests with the candidate.

Candidates from the SC/SCA/ST/DAP(PH) category are obligated to remit a sum of Rs. 500 for the TN MRB Assistant Surgeon Recruitment assessment, while individuals from other categories are expected to pay Rs. 1000.
