OROP Pension Table 2024: The extensive overhaul of pension plans designed for Armed Forces Personnel is set to take effect on July 1, 2024, as part of the eagerly awaited One Rank One Pension (OROP) initiative. In line with this new directive, all back payments associated with these reforms will be issued within the same financial year, providing prompt financial assistance to our veterans. This pivotal and highly anticipated update was announced by the Minister of State for Defence, Shri Sanjay Seth, during a parliamentary meeting held on July 26, 2024, underscoring the government’s dedication to supporting those who have valiantly served the country.
Revamped OROP Pension Scheme: Enhanced Benefits for Retired Forces
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has unveiled a significant overhaul of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, promising to deliver meaningful advantages to around 30 lakh retired Armed Forces members and their families, thus enhancing their financial stability and overall quality of life. This updated calculation method will aptly consider the most recent pay scales and allowances, ensuring that pensions align with today’s economic realities and honor the sacrifices made by these committed individuals.
This development represents the second substantial update to the OROP Pension scheme, the first of which took place in 2019, underscoring the government’s persistent dedication to meeting the needs of veterans. The new proposal stipulates that pensions will be precisely determined based on the average of the lowest and highest pensions for personnel retiring in 2023, taking into account their rank and years of service, thereby fostering fairness and equity among all retired service members.
OROP 3 Revised Pension Table 2024 Notification
As per the Defence Ministry’s correspondence No.12(1)/2014/D(Pen/Pol)-Part-II, dated November 7, 2015, the pensions for Defence Forces members will undergo recalibration every five years from now on. The first adjustment under the One Rank One Pension (OROP) Scheme was carried out on July 1, 2019, with the subsequent review slated to begin on July 1, 2024. For eligible Defence Forces pensioners and family pensioners, pension amounts will be reassessed based on the average of the minimum and maximum pensions for those who retired in 2023, with the same rank and length of service. Furthermore, individuals whose pensions surpass this average will have their amounts protected.

This order, noted as 12(1)/2014/D (Pen/Policy)-Part-H, was issued by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, via the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare in New Delhi on February 3, 2016.
