JNVST Online admission 2026-27 for Class-6
In accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986), the Government of India set up Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNVs). These institutions are co-educational residential schools that are completely funded and managed by the Government of India through an autonomous entity known as the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. Admissions to JNVs are conducted via the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) for Class VI. The medium of instruction in JNVs is the mother tongue or regional language until Class VIII, after which English is used for Mathematics and Science, while Hindi is utilized for Social Science. Students enrolled in JNVs take board examinations administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

Documents Required for Submission for NVS Admission 2026-27
- Birth Certificate – Issued by a competent government entity (proof of date of birth).

Navodaya Admission 2026: Important Information
While education in schools is provided at no cost, which encompasses board and lodging, uniforms, and textbooks, a fee of Rs. 600 per month is imposed exclusively on students in Classes IX to XII for the Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi (VVN). Nonetheless, students from SC/ST categories, Divyang students, all female students, and those whose family income is below the poverty line (BPL) are exempt from this charge.
For the offspring of Government employees who do not belong to the exempt categories (which include students from Classes VI to VIII, all SC/ST and female students, as well as wards of BPL families), the Vikas Nidhi fee will be determined at Rs. 1500 per month or the actual Children Education Allowance received by the parent per month, whichever is lesser.
However, the VVN fee shall not be lower than Rs. 600 per student per month. The goal is to provide high-quality modern education that incorporates a strong cultural aspect, instills values, raises environmental consciousness, and includes adventure activities and physical education for talented children, primarily from rural backgrounds. Additionally, the initiative aims to encourage national integration by facilitating the migration of students between Hindi and Non-Hindi speaking states.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Examination 2026
The JNV Selection Test aimed at admitting students to Class VI in JNVs for the academic year 2026-27 is arranged to occur in two distinct phases. The first phase is scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 11:30 A.M. for a particular list of JNV schools, while the second phase is planned for Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11:30 A.M. for the remaining JNVs.

Booking for NVS Enrollment 2026-27
A minimum of 75% of the seats in each district are allocated for candidates from rural backgrounds, while the remaining seats are filled based on merit across the district from both urban and rural applicants.
Reservations for SC and ST are allocated in proportion to their population within the district, with a minimum of 15% for SC and 7.5% for ST, and a maximum combined limit of 50%. These reservations can be exchanged if there are no qualified candidates in one category.
In addition, 27% of the seats are reserved for OBC candidates according to the Central OBC list, while those not listed will be categorized as General. At least one-third of the total seats are reserved for girls, and they are prioritized to meet this quota if necessary. Rural-open seats are assigned block-wise based on the rural population statistics. There is also a reservation for Divyang individuals (children with disabilities), which includes those with blindness, hearing impairments, locomotor disabilities, cerebral palsy, dwarfism, and acid attack survivors, provided they have a certified disability of at least 40% as per the Government of India standards.

JNV Admission Card and Selection Examination 2026-27
The admit cards will be made available according to the timeline determined by NVS, which will be posted on the application portal. Candidates and their parents will have the ability to download the admit cards at no cost prior to the JNVST 2026 examination. The results of the written examination will be announced for Summer-bound JNVs by March 2026 and for Winter-bound JNVs by May 2026. The Principal of the respective Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya will also reach out to the provisionally selected candidates via telephone on their registered mobile numbers, followed by a notification sent through speed post. NVS will issue only two wait lists to accommodate any vacancies that may occur due to candidates’ refusal or failure to provide the necessary essential certificates. Admission Deadline: All admissions must be finalized by December 31, 2026.
Comprehensive Admission Process for Parents and Students
Admission to Class VI in JNVs is specific to each district. A student must be enrolled in Class V during the academic year 2025–26 at a government, government-aided, or recognized school within the same district as the JNV. Admission is restricted to the JNV of that particular district.
The candidate must be a legitimate resident of the district. At the time of admission, a valid residential certificate from a competent government authority must be provided by the parent. In cases where the district was divided after the establishment of the JNV and no new JNV has been created in the new district, the admission eligibility will adhere to the boundaries of the original district.
The candidate’s age must fall between 01 May 2014 and 31 July 2016 (inclusive of both dates). This requirement applies to all categories, including SC, ST, OBC, Divyang, and General. A birth certificate issued by the government is compulsory. Should there be any uncertainty regarding the candidate’s age, a medical board will be consulted, and its ruling will be conclusive.
The student must be registered in Class V for the entire academic year 2025–26 at a recognized school within the same district. Candidates who have not been promoted to Class V by 31 July 2025 or those who have completed Class V in earlier sessions are ineligible.
The student should have successfully completed Classes III, IV, and V in one full academic year each at government, aided, or recognized schools. Continuity in education is crucial for eligibility.
Students from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) are eligible if they possess a valid ‘B’ certificate issued on or before 15 September 2025 and satisfy the age requirements. Their rural or urban classification will be based on their residence, not the NIOS center. NIOS study centers must be accredited.
Candidates who have previously appeared are not permitted. A student may take the JNV Selection Test only once. NVS will verify data from prior years to identify repeat candidates, and such applications will be annulled at any point, including after provisional selection.
The Aadhaar number is a prerequisite for application and admission. If the child has not yet registered for Aadhaar, they must submit an application with parental consent before proceeding with registration. Until the Aadhaar is issued, candidates are permitted to register provisionally by providing a residence certificate. The Aadhaar must be shown during the selection test and at the final admission stage. Furthermore, JNVs facilitate Aadhaar enrollment for students.
For eligibility under the rural quota, the student must have attended full academic sessions in Classes III, IV, and V at schools located in rural areas of the same district. At least 75% of the total seats are reserved for candidates from rural backgrounds.
Students who have spent even a single day in an urban school during Classes III to V will be regarded as urban candidates. The classification into urban or rural categories is based on the school’s location as indicated by the government.
