To address the concerns raised by parents in Karnataka, the Education Department has announced a reduction in the minimum entry age for class 1 admissions in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. For the academic year 2025-26, the minimum age will be lowered from 6 years to 5 years and 5 months (5.5 years). The original minimum age of 6 years will be reinstated starting from the following academic year.
Minimum Age Criteria in Karnataka RTE Admission 2025-26
The determination of the Minimum Age as of June 1, 2025, is relevant to the academic year 2025-26. This exception is exclusive to this particular academic year. The age relaxation for Class 1 admissions is valid for all government and private schools across all curricula throughout Karnataka State. Additionally, children who have attended Anganwadi for three years will also be eligible for Class 1 admission at the age of 5 years and 5 months in all schools for the current academic year 2025-26.
