Chennai HC Seeks Reply on Delay for RTE Admission 2025-26: The Chennai High Court has instructed the Tamil Nadu Government to provide information regarding the delays in the admission process for entry-level classes in unaided private schools, as mandated by the Right to Education Act for the academic year 2025-26. This directive follows a writ petition concerning the allocation of 25% of seats under the RTE Act for underprivileged children in all private unaided and matriculation schools, as the admission process for 2025-26 has yet to commence in Tamil Nadu.
Typically, the online admission process begins in April and concludes in May; however, this year, the school education department has not announced the admission dates under the RTE. Over one hundred thousand students benefit from free admission to nearby private schools through this RTE scheme. Consequently, the court is expected to issue orders for the government to initiate the admission process without delay.

The Tamil Nadu Education Department has not yet issued any directives, notifications, or clarifications concerning the commencement of entry-level classes in all unaided private schools for the academic year 2025-26, as stipulated by the Right To Education Act. Parents and guardians are anxiously anticipating the announcement regarding the initiation date for the free admission process for their children from marginalized groups (SC, ST, and Disability) and economically disadvantaged sections in local private schools for the current academic year 2025-26.

Several states in India have finalized the initial classes of the admission process for the 2025-26 academic year in accordance with the Right to Education Act, catering to children from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), those with disabilities, and those from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The states participating in this initiative include Delhi, UP, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Odisha, Andhra, Punjab, Haryana, Sikkim, and WB.
